Movable Walls Added to Art Studio

Adding Space for Paintings

Some time ago we spent a couple of days building some walls for Amanda's art studio. Right now it has a kind of a funny theme going on since she painted a bunch of ravens for an Edgar Allan Poe exhibit a while back.

I just wanted to post a few pictures of what we ended up doing with it.

I built this large white wall, basically with 2x4s and plywood, then painted it white. I felt kind of silly because I didn't have a roller and was too lazy to go get one at home depot, so I used a medium/large sized brush which took me way too long.

Right now all it has on it is this colored pencil sketch of me that Amanda created last year. I am starting to think that I need to build a couple more walls because the studio space doesn't have the best shape to hang things on the actual walls.

These are a couple of abstract pieces that she did. Unfortunately the photos aren't the best; it was midnight when I took the photos and the room lights are really just set up for viewing in person.

I will try to take some better ones with my DSLR. The one on the right is actually pretty wild looking. It reminds me of something David Lynch would come up with. Can you see the large hand?

I managed to get all of the ravens onto one wall. That was a bit of a challenge. All I had was a really rickety ladder, some screws and a drill. That's why they are a bit crooked. I will have to bring a level over and sort this out before the show next month.

This wall, with hinges, I didn't actually build. Someone in the building was throwing it away so we took it. It was completely covered in cobwebs and completely black. It took a few hours to clean and paint, but I think it's working out nicely.

I didn't bother painting the backside. I suppose no one will really see it. Maybe I will if I get some free time. It has been crazy around here this week! Lots of work. It seems like all or nothing with some of these contract jobs.

These were just some fun little abstract pieces that Amanda made the other day. She was trying to figure out something fun to do with little canvases and this is what she came up with.

PS - Check out this chair that another artist in our building made. It is made completely of paper, apart from the wheels, which are made of metal. This thing looks awesome!
