A Christian or A Church Goer?

Growing up as a Christian has taught me a lot in the Christian life. Many people today think Christianity is all about Sunday or Saturday. They think Christianity is all about dressing up neatly on a Sunday morning and going to church. No! That is not Christianity. Christianity goes far more than just going to church every Sunday or Saturday. Yes, the Bible says that we must not forsake the gathering of the saints

[Heb 10:25] KJV : Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

The gathering together of the saints is not being Christ-like, the gathering together of the saints is for the exhortation of one another and encouraging one another and for the remembering of one another about the second coming of the Jesus Christ to Judge man. That is what the gathering of the saints is for.

I will like to share a part of one of my favourite songs. Listening to this song over and over again has taught me what people of today see Christianity. Below is a part of the song I want us to take into consideration.

woke up strong on a Monday
I go to gym on a Tuesday
Then to the studio on Wednesday
I work it out till Thursday morning
I be chilling on Friday
I play some shows on Saturday
If you ask me what my best day is
Its when I praise you on Sunday morning
~[ Flavour]

Looking at the above lyrics the song writer make us to know what he does each day of the week. You realise he says;

If you ask me what my best day is
Its when I praise you on Sunday morning

Praising God is done only on Sunday morning. One may say it is just a song but the truth is that, it is the life of Christians of today. We have only given God a certain day where we gather and sing praises, read Bibles and then go home and continue living in our evil acts. We do this because we feel and know that Christianity is a religion but the truth is Christianity is never religion as some of us think and know. Christianity is a relationship with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and our fellow human being. That is what Christianity is all about. Someone may ask what do you mean by Christianity is a relationship with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and our fellow human being, let me take time to give some simple thoughts of what I mean by that.

Relationship with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit (all in one)

Having and creating time to be with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is what I mean by Christianity. As Christians we must create time and desire and love to be in the presence of God. Being in the presence is what gives us the true connection with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

That is permits us to call ourselves Christians. Jesus Christ, whom we are imitating always loved to be with the Father, He created time to be with the Father and seek help from the Holy Spirit. We call ourselves Christians and we do no such thing, being in the presence of God for even an hour is sometimes a problem. It is very bad.

It is the time we Christians must take upon ourselves to spend more time before the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and stop trading ourselves around and bragging of being in church A or church B. It is time to have that relationship with God, love Him for who he is. That is what makes us a Christian.

Relationship with our fellow human being

I am not sure someone can say he or she loves someone he or she has never seen before and hates someone very close to him or her. Can't love God and hate your fellow man. It is not right. Loving our fellow humans shows how we are close to God and His Son Jesus Christ. Christ loved us first that is why He died to wipe all our sins. The one we claim we are following as Christians first showed us love, so we can do the same by loving and caring for each other. This is what shows we are Christians.

[John 13:34] KJV : A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
