Matthew 3:15 (NIV)

Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.” Then John consented.

Jesus came to the world to fulfil the will of the Father. After man fell at the Garden of Eden, it was important for God to restore man back to Himself because He always has the best of intentions for us, His creation. Back in the day, the blood of animals would be sacrificed so that sins can be washed away but God saved the best for the last just as Jesus saved the best wine for the last at His first miracle at a wedding, in Cana, Galilee.

Jesus came to fulfil the will of God and everything about Him was on fulfilling the will of God which explains everything He did while on earth.

Jesus was without sin and baptism was designed to serve as a practical example of washing away of sin but yet, Jesus went through with it. It was written also before then in the book of Isaiah that John would be the frontrunner of Jesus which was why Jesus told John that it was proper for 'us' to do this so they can fulfil all righteousness. We cannot talk about baptism without talking about John and of course, Jesus.

Despite feeling the weight of the world upon His shoulder, He still sought to do the will of God. As believers, we already know the will of God which is for us to reconcile all men back to God. He sent us into the world to make disciples of all nations. We have different ways we can do that with our talents but most of the time we don't seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, we would rather see after those additions that was promised thinking we can do it all alone by ourselves.

Jesus came to do the will of the Father and that was also evident here:

Luke 22:42 (NIV)

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

God want us to use whatever and wherever He has called us to, to win souls back to Him. The harvest is much but the labourers are few. What are you doing with your gifts? Are you burying it like the servant that went to go and hide his talents because he felt he should have gotten something better? You are a writer that can make a difference but because you can't sing, you went and hide your talent rather than use what you have to achieve the same purpose for which God has given you?

A lot lies with us as believers as we know the will of God but we are not doing it. How can we claim to have Faith in God, believe in Jesus and won't act like Jesus did? Jesus allowed the baptism despite being sinless to serve as a lesson for all of us so we can follow His pattern.

The will of the Father is clear and we should not allow the cares of this world to take the primary stage. We are majoring on the minor while we minor on the major. What we are seeking after are additions that God promised but doing His will will guarantee us getting those things we are bent on running after. It was knowing the will of God and seeking to fulfil it that gave Jesus the strength to withstand all that He went through. As Christians, we must do the same.
