Manchester City won't stop till they lay their hands on the title and so it seems right now as they were able to open 12 points lead at the top of the table. Even though Liverpool finally cut it into 9 points with their win over Leicester City, and they still have the opportunity to cut it into 6 points if they win their outstanding game but we don't have to take anything away from this ruthless City side who won't stop squeezing out the results even when they are not playing at their best.

Manchester City took the lead thanks to Mahrez's penalty kick before Kevin De Bruyne pounced on the defensive error from the goalkeeper to round up the scoring and make it 3 points against this struggling Brentford side who are not getting the desired points their valiant performances deserve.

As expected, City had the early dominance and wasted quite a lot of chances too with the header so early in the game from Foden before Sterling failed to get on the end of Mahrez's low drive delivery into the box before the goalkeeper beat him to it. Joao Cancelo had the chance to bundle home the rebound of that effort and he blasted the ball over the bar from close range. He went for power when he should have gone for placement and that got Brentford off the hook even though Cancelo had two legs on him, so there was nothing he would have done any way other than to quickly get the shot off.

Another chance went begging for City after Foden cleverly picked out Sterling in the box and his half-volleyed overhead kick was too high. Laporte also wasted another chance from Kevin De Bruyne's free-kick after a headed pass was directed to him inside the box. He tried to pick out the bottom right corner of the post but his effort missed narrowly.

The moment came for City in the 40th minute after Mads Roerslev brought down Sterling inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Mahrez stepped up to take it. He comfortably sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to give City a deserved lead. He has now scored in 7 games for the Blues this season.

Cancelo tried an audacious attempt from a long-range hoping to beat the goalkeeper but his attempt missed by just a margin. There is no denying that he is in formidable form. He plays sometimes as a winger and you would argue he is a full back. What a talent he is which is evident with the way he beat 2 Brentford defenders to wriggle his way into the box but his finishing let him down as the goalkeeper gathered the ball easily. What a goal that would have been.

Just when Brentford were hoping to get a draw, they were let down by their goalkeeper in the 69th minute after his terrible pass went straight to Sterling at the edge of the box. He managed to save the attempt from Sterling but was unable to keep the rebound away from Kevin De Bruyne who slotted the ball into the unguarded net to give City 2 goals cushion.

It was a dominant game from City, no doubt and if they keep grinding out the results as they have been doing of late, it would be hard for them to drop points because they have the firepower to cope with the congested fixture list when the Champions League resumes shortly. This is the Premier League and anything can happen. We have seen teams lose their position at the top of the table after a series of bad runs and City would feel the pressure more because they don't want to lose and of course, Liverpool as well because they are the closest to Manchester City. Any drop in point for Liverpool would keep pushing City towards the title and they wouldn't want that too.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I believe Liverpool would push City to the end of the season for the Premier League title and it's too early to make predictions as to who will win it but it's going to be interesting to see how it pans out.
