Champions League is full of surprises and this is just one of those surprises as the game turned unexpectedly. On paper, everyone expected Borussia Dortmund to win this game against Ajax but it wasn't to be because Ajax came with the surprise package and gave Dortmund a harsh lesson on the night.

Ajax entertained their home fans with a resounding 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund with Marco Reus scoring an own goal before Daley Blind, Anthony and Sebastian Haller adding gloss to the scoreline to give Ajax a deserved 4-0 win. It's a result business and Ajax got the job done to perfection.

Ajax showed they meant business as early as the 9th minute when Anthony was played through on goal but Matt Hummels was there to block the ball off for a corner kick. Shortly afterwards, Daley Blind was played through as well but this time around the legs of the goalkeeper denied his effort on goal. In the 10th minute, Ajax got the reward for their efforts as Tadic's freekick was delivered into the box but Marco Reus got the last headed touch on it to head it into his own net to give Ajax a 1-0 lead.

Ajax weren't done and in the 25th minute Haller left a poked pass to Daley Blind just outside the box and he whooped his shot straight at go and got in off the upright to extend Ajax lead by 2 goals. What a nightmare it was for Dortmund as Blind got his first goal in over a year and we are seeing the repeat of that sensational Ajax exciting side as we did a few years ago.

Just a few minutes after getting their second goal, Ajax went for a third but this time it wasn't to be. Anthony released the ball to Steven Berghuis but right inside the box, the Dutch player dragged his shot wide - off the target. It should have been the 3rd goal.

Dortmund were totally out-muscled with a series of attempts on goal from Haller and Ryan Gravenberch but they weren't meant to be. Just before halftime, Ryan Gravenberch had a wonderful freekick tipped onto the upright to deny Ajax yet another goal.

It got worse for Dortmund in the 57th minute after Haller was found in the box and his flick header fell to Anthony right inside the box and he wasted no time in cutting in and releasing a wonderful low drive curling effort into the bottom corner of the post to further sink the hearts of Dortmund faithful. What a performance from Ajax.

Dortmund had one notable chance in the 67th minute after Haaland was played through and he executed his cut back so well but the goalkeeper was on hand to stop his shot at goal to deny the big guy. Ajax completed the rout in the 72nd minute after Daley Blind found Haller with a lovely cross into the box and his brilliant header did the finishing justice as Ajax raced to a 4-0 lead against a disjointed Dortmund side. Haller has been in a good form for Ajax and the top scorer of the competition as well. He can't stop scoring at the moment.

The game ended 4-0 and it was a night to forget for Dortmund and a night to remember for Ajax.
