HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Hello, dear friends of Weku! You have no idea how long it took me to get here. Before going into today's post, I would like to apologize for my absence from the platform. However, as some people probably know, on Thursday, March 7, Venezuela, my country, ran out of electricity until Monday afternoon when a partial restructuring of the service began, and it wasn't until Tuesday that my region had electricity. In addition to this, the Internet only worked in some parts of the country, which is why I barely managed to have the services more or less regularly today. I would like to say that everything is going well, however, the government is not able to guarantee the permanence of the services, so we only have to wait.

However, today I do not come to talk about the chaos that was experienced in Venezuela in recent days, I will leave that for another post, but what I am going to talk about is a subject that surrounded my head in these days of darkness: My birthday. YES, MY LONGED-FOR BIRTHDAY IS HERE! And I couldn't have arrived in a more peculiar and difficult period, however, that's not why I was going to stop celebrating, right? this made me reflect on the subject, and today I share the words written by me just a few days ago where without electricity or water, I tried to think of positive things, such as birthdays for me. So, here we go:

I love birthdays, mine and those of other people, since I was little I have always loved them, I remember that in my childhood every month, insisted my mother to light a candle for me to be able to blow it out and celebrate another month of life. I used to celebrate my dolls' birthdays with a fake and imaginary cake and the birthdays of my family and friends I take very seriously. However, things change over time, perceptions evolve and mature, and my birthdays have changed a lot since I was a child.
Why, I don't feel ashamed to be born in Venezuela, on the contrary, I love her, I would give my life for her freedom, but I know that many times there are compatriots who use our country's crisis as excuses for a million things and even to ask for money. In this post I must touch on this subject, because much of my perception about birthdays has evolved as the crisis increases.

I was born in a very different country in which I live today, I think that contributes greatly to my hatred of the current government for destroying something as beautiful as Venezuela. I was born in a country of open doors, of loving (and somewhat meddlesome) families who were always looking for reasons to celebrate. My childhood birthdays were quite special, my mom served my favorite breakfast, then came gifts from my dad, my brother and my mom that had to be unexpected, (I never asked for anything specific because I love surprises) and at night it was my birthday party. In my parties there were always many people, my family is enormous and together with my friends they filled my party with life.

I also always prepared the gifts of my relatives in advance, as I was a child, my gifts did not go beyond crafts and letters full of glitter, but it really made me feel good to give. For me, birthdays were the best thing in the world.

Over time, the country turned 180 degrees, although we are the country with the largest energy reserves in the world and we have beautiful landscapes, we have never been an economic power, many things have always been wrong, but at least we could live, aspire to something, dream of great achievements, but everything changed, the crisis came, and it was increasingly difficult that the celebrations were as before. However, this did not change my love for birthdays, on the contrary made me really value them.

Today, I value every little detail, such as my brother making handmade greeting cards, or how my mom learned to make crafts she once hated to decorate gifts or that buying a cake is now a great sacrifice. But in spite of everything, we are still here, honoring having another year, with or without something material, with or without electricity, because we continue, because we have each other, because life is hard, but also wonderful and deserves to be honored.

Birthdays are precious, because they celebrate life, they are a tribute to a person for the simple fact of being a person, it allows you to say to someone else "I am happy that you are here" and that is a clear sign of love. It doesn't matter about gifts, because for me there is nothing more valuable than a simple, sincere and simple "Happy Birthday. I love you

So: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
