The Wandering Developer | Palawan

These past few months have been really stressful for me. I've been mostly busy with my day job and I also do some freelance jobs here and there which meant that I was mostly staring at a computer screen all day.

I'm not complaining, it may seem that way but believe me when I say that i'm not. I'm a thorough believer that being busy is a good thing and I would prefer being busy than doing nothing.

Having said that, I'm also a believer in the saying that every so often one must take a break and relax and I felt it was about time that I took a break.

Being in the Philippines there are no shortage of beaches, so me and a couple of friends decided to go to one of the more well known islands here in the Philippines. I've heard a lot of great reviews from the island of Palawan, from it's beautiful beaches to it's wondrous views. You could say I was super excited!

Since it was our first time in Palawan we decided to go on an island hoping to be able to visit the different islands. For those who don't know island hoping is basically a bunch of tourists on a boat visiting different islands/beaches where they stay for a couple of minutes (usually 30-60) per beach.

I didn't get to take a ton of pictures cause i'm the type of guy who usually enjoys the moment with their eyes and not through a camera. Also, since I was swimming a lot I didn't fancy taking out my phone and potentially soaking it in sea water. lol

The pictures that I was able to take were when I was dry, or when we were traveling to the next beach. Hope you enjoy!

I usually sit near the front of the boat and hang my feet of it to feel the water against my feet and this was my view.

This is what's usually used to carry around a group of 10 people. Since we were a group of 20+ we rode a bigger version of this. Unfortunately though I wasn't able to take a picture of it.

This was one of the beaches we went to, just look at that view! It was a bit cloudy when we went there which was a bit unfortunate but at least we didn't get burnt because of the sun! LOL

On our last day in Palawan we went to one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, the Underground River. We rented a boat that would go inside the underground river. It was an awesome experience, there were bats flying in and out of the cave and it smelled like guano. The river is 8.2 km long but tourists unfortunately are only allowed to travel around 4 km inside of the river because the other parts of the river haven't been explored yet or has been considered unsafe for the public.

I was only able to take a few pictures because it was a cave so light was scarce and the only light source we had was a flashlight by our tour guide. Camera flashes weren't allowed inside the cave because it might disturb the bats that were sleeping and there were water mixed with minerals and bat pee that were dripping from the roof of the cave and my phone isn't water proof!

Overall it was an awesome vacation, the beach was awesome and Palawan lived up to the reputation it had at being one of the most beautiful island in the Philippines. I would definitely come back to Palawan! I love the island life, it's running at a much slower pace compared to being in a city, and someday hope that I could live on an island for good, but i'd need to save a bit of money for that to be a reality!
