Witnesses come in different flavors

The Whaleshares project has different aspects:

  • the idea of the project
  • the blockchain
  • the platform
  • the WLS coin

These aspects are all valuable, all needed to make this project grow. Dependent on the phase the project is in priorities may shift, but that doesn't mean what has been done already should be valued less.

Our witnesses all have their own reasons for supporting the project by running a witness server. They could be focused on one or multiple aspects of the project.

Some have been here since day one, just because they liked the idea of the project and wanted to give it a chance to grow to its potential.
Some are more focused on the platform, trying to shape it in a way it triggers people to join when they browse it.
Some are more focused on the economic part of the project and work on improving the value and use of WLS.

The important thing is, they are here, they all serve a purpose, and they are all keeping the blockchain alive.

Missing Blocks

Missing blocks is not a good thing. When a witness starts missing blocks, it means their server wasn't ready to produce the block on time. It doesn't mean any information is lost, it means transactions (posts, comments, and everything else) are delayed. And yes, because our daily rewards payout is based on "number of blocks produced" and not on "hours passed", it also delays daily reward payout.

But also, missing blocks is a technical issue. A server can be fine for months, even years, and suddenly start to miss blocks. That is not in the control of the witness.

What is in control of the witness, is how prompt they react to missing blocks. Some improvement, could and probably should be made in that department. The sooner the witness is aware of the error, the sooner they can take action, the less blocks they miss, the less delay occurs on the blockchain.

Casting your vote

When you cast your vote for witnesses you will hopefully vote for the ones who focus on an aspect of the project that matches your thoughts on what makes the platform grow. This is great.

My advice would be to look beyond missed blocks, they are not the best indicator of how valuable a witness is or has been to the project. Apart from their focus also take in account the time they have stuck with the project even in bad weather.

Use your witness votes wisely

Jump over to the Block Producer / Witness page and cast your witness votes. Simply click on the (^) up arrow next to the witness names of your choice (consider voting for "krazywitness" and "ijmmaiwitness") and supply your private active key to lock in your vote. Refresh the page in case your vote doesn't seem to stick.
