Het spaarspel / The saving game (NL/EN)

Deze maand is het de maand van de vrouw, althans hier in Colombia. Ik hou niet van die gedwongen commerciële koopdagen, want daar is het de winkels het om te doen. Ze gaan dan ook naadloos over van de ene "belangrijke" dag of periode naar de andere, je weet wel wat ik bedoel.
Er is natuurlijk niets mis om liefde en aandacht te schenken aan diegene die dag en nacht, goed en mindergoed, steeds aan je zijde staat. Daarom had ik iets leuk bedacht voor mijn vrouw. Een mix van spel, cadeautjes en tevens iets educatiefs. Ik noemde het "het spaarspel", later zal duidelijk worden wat ik hiermee bedoel.
Eerst een geschikte dag bepalen...dus vroeg ik aan mijn vrouw om dinsdag niets te plannen. Al snel kwamen de vragen "waarom?" ,"wat ben je van plan?" en ook vragen en bewegingen die de verrassing wilde lospeuteren, zoals "wat moet ik aandoen?" "heb ik een badpak nodig?, en meerdere pogingen om te zien wat ik aan het doen was op de laptop. Ik kon alles netjes verborgen houden...
De dag zelf gingen we naar een winkelcentrum en gaf ik haar een som geld waarvan ik wist dat het niet voldoende zou zijn om haar parfum van bepaalde merken te kopen. De opdracht was, om met deze som een alternatief te zoeken in haar favoriete parfumerie. Bovendien was het de bedoeling om geld over te houden. Dat vond ze al helemaal raar, maar ik drukte er nogmaals op dat het een spaarspel was en dat later alles wel duidelijk zou worden.
Terwijl ik aan de rand van het vijvertje met vele verfrissende fonteinen zat te wachten kon ik perfect binnenkijken en zien hoe ze met de winkelbediende de hele winkel afschuimde om toch iets naar haar zin te kopen. Het duurde wel een hele poos vooraleer ze met haar koopwaar naar buiten kwam, maar ze glimlachte, ze vond het duidelijk een leuk spel.
Toen ik haar vroeg om het resterende bedrag terug aan mij te geven was er even protest...ze bleef het raar vinden... Ik suste haar door te zeggen dat alles wel duidelijk zou worden later in het spel.
Ik gaf haar opnieuw een klein budget, maar ditmaal om een cadeautje te kopen voor haar moeder, Moederdag weet je wel... Nu ging ik met haar mee om haar gezelschap te houden, en natuurlijk uit nieuwsgierigheid.
Ook deze opdracht verliep met veel zoeken en twijfels, maar ze uiteindelijk wel het cadeautje gevonden dat voldeed aan alle eisen (nuttig, mooi en binnen budget). Toen ze het resterende bedrag afgaf moest ze glimlachen maar nog steeds met vragende ogen...
Wij zijn wat men noemt een nieuw samengesteld gezin, met allebei een kind uit een vorig huwelijk. Haar zoon heeft nog niet zolang een relatie, en door opdracht te geven om iets voor haar te kopen, sloeg ik twee vliegen in één klap. Enerzijds het spel verder zetten, en anderzijds kunnen we laten zien dat we deze relatie goedkeuren. Ook hiervoor kreeg ze een klein budget, en voor de tweede maal ging ze binnen in de parfumerie waar ze opzoek ging naar iets presentabel. Opdracht 3 gelukt!!
Ondertussen wist ze al wat ze met de rest moest doen...afgeven.
Laatste opdracht: alweer gaf ik haar een budget, maar ditmaal kreeg ze al het uitgespaarde geld van de vorige aankopen er bovenop, en dit mocht ze vrij en tot op de laatste cent uitgeven aan wat ze maar wilde.
Nu pas drong het door wat de bedoeling van het spel was.
Na het geslaagde spel nam ik haar mee naar een populair parkje dat omgeven is door talrijke bars en restaurantjes. Ook daar had ik me op voorbereid, ik had heel wat opzoekingen gedaan, vooral via TripAdvisor, naar een restaurant met goede reviews.
Na het overheerlijke gerecht was de planning om, na een wandeling over het park, een ijsje te nuttigen. Dat was niet echt een succes...de bewuste en enige ijssalon was er niet meer...
We hebben dan maar de taxi genomen om elders een ijsje te eten.
Al bij al een welgeslaagde dag, goed gevuld met koopjes, glimlachen en lekker eten.

This month is women's month, at least here in Colombia. I don't like those forced commercial shopping days, because that's what the shops aim for. They also transition seamlessly from one "important" day or period to another, you know what I mean.
There is of course nothing wrong with giving love and attention to those who are always by your side day and night, good and bad. That's why I came up with something nice for my wife. A mix of a game, gifts and also something educational. I called it "the savings game", later it will become clear what I mean by this.
First I had to determine a suitable day ...so I asked my wife not to plan anything on Tuesday. Soon the questions "why?" ,"what are you up to?" as well as questions and moves to reveal the surprise came up , such as "what should I wear?" "do I need a bathing suit?, also multiple attempts to see what I was doing on the laptop. I was able to keep everything neatly hidden...
That very day we went to a shopping center and I gave her a sum of money that I knew would not be enough to buy her perfume from certain brands. The assignment was to find an alternative with this sum in her favorite perfumery. Moreover, the intention was to save money. She thought that was quite strange, but I emphasized again that it was a savings game and that everything would become clear later.
While I was waiting at the edge of the pond with many refreshing fountains, I had a perfect look inside and see how she and the shop assistant scoured the entire store to buy something to her liking. It took quite a while before she came out with her merchandise, but she smiled, she clearly thought it was a fun game.
When I asked her to return the remaining amount to me there was a moment of protest...she continued to think it was strange... I soothed her by saying that everything would become clear later in the game.
I gave her again a small budget, but this time to buy her a present for her mother, Mother's Day you know... Now I went with her to keep her company, and of course out of curiosity.
This assignment also went through a lot of searching and doubts, but in the end she found the gift that met all the requirements (useful, beautiful and within budget). When she handed over the remaining amount she smiled but still with questioning eyes...
We are what is called a newly composed family, each with a child from a previous marriage.
Her son is in a recent relationship, and by ordering her to buy something, I killed two birds with one stone. On the one hand, we could continue the game, and on the other, we could show that we approve this relationship. She was also had a small budget for this, and for the second time she entered the perfumery where she looked for something presentable. Mission 3 accomplished!!
In the meantime she already knew what to do with the rest...hand it over.
Last assignment: again I gave her a budget, but this time she got all the money saved from the previous purchases on top of it, and she could spend this freely and down to the last cent on whatever she wanted.
Only now she saw the point of the game.
After the successful game I took her to a popular park that is surrounded by numerous bars and restaurants. I had prepared myself for that too, I had done a lot of research, especially via TripAdvisor, for a restaurant with good reviews.
After the delicious dish, the plan was to have an ice cream after a walk through the park. That was not really a success... the conscious and only ice cream parlor was no longer there...
So we took a taxi to eat an ice cream elsewhere.
All in all a successful day, well filled with bargains, smiles and good food.
