Recordando mi primer beso en la mejilla | Remembering my first kiss on the cheek [English version inside]

You and me had our meetings on the roof that connected the buildings of our houses, it was one of the advantages of being neighbors of those departments units of the eighties. It's been a long time since I've seen you, maybe I shouldn't even get into those corners of my memories but it's that you were the first girl with whom I fell in love in my life, that's been thirty-five years ago. Today I do not remember your name but I remember the essence of that first love of children, whose parents understood perhaps that it was time to seriously talk about life to their kids.

Today I don't remember exactly how long our romance could have lasted and to be honest, I have a hard time remembering exactly your face, it's almost a shadow. I must tell you, however, that what I felt was so intense, like the awakening of any human being to life, when he receives his first kiss among the children's fiddling of the roofs.

Those were times when I lived in an epic world, days of dreams and chimeras, I would have maybe nine years old and my whole environment was a field of daily conquest among the kites of the park and taking care of my goalkeeper position when we played football at school. I had almost never thought that the word girlfriend could happen to me.

Among those events that I remember in the streets of our neighborhood, like when I thought it would be good to gift you a Gansito Marinela, or when you invited me to a party that was in your house and there were your parents and you didn't mind holding my hand through all the place. It was an explosion when you kissed me on the cheek. I also remember when they told me that we would move from Mexico City to Merida and I would stop seeing you. Then I don't remember you anymore.

Today at the age of forty-five years, I've perhaps felt sorry for all the time that has passed in my life, but I feel growing appreciation for the days that may come. I am visiting you in my memories, meeting us on the rooftop, giving you all the chocolates that I had planned but that by the predetermined paths of our destinies I could not give you anymore. I hope that your life has been good so far, that it remains so if you are in this world, and if not, I want you to know that I will be happy to meet you in the next, with the new paths that the constant turns of the spirit gift us.

Today it's me who gives you a kiss in the cheek.
