📝 What is "State of the Witnesses"?

State of the witnesses will be a regular update provided to the community on the status of the Whaleshares witnesses. The intent is to keep members informed of what is happening on the platform and what witnesses are doing. It is important that members of the community vote for witnesses that represent them and are driving the platform in the right direction. These updates are not intended to be all inclusive, but should only be a portion of the information used for your decision making.

In addition to the overall status, each update will also feature one witness in the "Witness Spotlight". This will allow the community to get a deeper look into the person/group behind the witness and how they play a part in the Whaleshares community.

📈 Status

As mentioned in previous reports, we came to our first required update to address a memory allocation issue that is a security vulnerability.



Version 0.2.6 was released over 2 months ago to mitigate this vulnerability and unfortunately we have 8 active witnesses that have not updated or failed to communicate it in the official Discord #witness-chat channel. Witnesses that continue to run a vulnerable version put the whole chain at risk.

I reached out one final time in the #witness-support discord for status.

I have indicated in the chart below with a ✅those witnesses that have confirmed their node(s) have been updated. If you are one of the few witnesses that are not a member of the Discord channel, I would strongly suggest you become involved (instruction on getting access to the channel are in the Witness Guide) as this is the primary place for witness communications.

I question the commitment to the platform, and other witnesses, of witnesses that have not communicated the status of their witness node to a critical vulnerability after 2 months. An open communication channel between witnesses is crucial if we run into any "chain down" scenarios that require immediate action from witnesses. I encourage you to also reevaluate your votes for these witnesses.

There are currently 5 witnesses disabled in the top 50, which is down from 9 last report. Good job! Perhaps the results of the "Dead Witness Bounty Program" (see News section below). All have been disabled for many weeks and I encourage everyone to review and reconsider your witness votes. We should try to keep the top 50 witnesses as enabled and block producing capable.

I encourage you to remove your vote from any witness that has been disabled for a week or more. Witness voting is a responsibility of all member and not just a one time deal. Everyone should make it a habit to regularly review their votes and make adjustments. The longest disabled witness in the top 50 is intelliwitness. If you are mentioned below, you still have an active vote for intelliwitness that should be removed.

⭐️ Witness Spotlight - @god ⭐️

📌 For those who don't know much about witnesses, in layman’s terms, can you give your thoughts on what is the job of a witness?

A Whaleshares witness is a person who has knowledge of the platform from observation or experience. Such a person has a server running a witness node, producing blocks for the Whaleshares blockchain. This server ensures transactions like posting, commenting, sharing, rewarding and others, are published on whaleshares platform to the blockchain. A witness in my opinion is a leader that ensures the successful growth of the platform to the world.

📌 What brought you to Whaleshares?

I started my blogging career way back in 2006 sneaking from my parents' place to the Cybercafe to write via my blog; c.base.blog.com, stevecharis.blogspot.com etc I lost my credentials to this sites because I had to stop blogging for a long time. I discovered blogging again when I found Steemit and I found out so many people in my niche were not being supported by the Steemians. I therefore created a group for us to come together and build greater steem power. Then boom!

The vision of flaminghelpers was birthed to spread the gospel on the blockchain while we all get simultaneously rewarded. The birth of Whaleshares gave us a newer, fresher, better opportunity to built on what we had achieved on Steemit and we are grateful to the team for all the help they showered us. On that note, I will say, the main thing that brought me to Whaleshares was the hope of spreading the good news even further. This I continuously done, promoting the platform with good content shared across all my pages, ranging from Facebook, Google+, Steemit, Instagram, WhatsApp, Reddit etc.

📌 What is your background and how does that make you a good witness?

I studied computer science and I have worked as an IT professional for about 6 years now. I have installed and configured many Windows based applications and Windows servers for different companies in Lagos Nigeria. I am also a pastor which is why many people know me as the blockchain Pastor. I won't claim to be a good witness but I am committed to doing my best at all times with new and innovative ideas to foster the growth of the platform.

📌 What excites you most about being a witness?

What excites me most about being a witness is the ability I have, I acquired overtime to help others. It feels awesome to be able to make truly positive difference when the need arises.

📌 Are you running any projects on Whaleshares?

I am currently working on a dApp with flaminghelpers.network on the Whaleshares blockchain which will focus on the gospel aspect of the Whaleshares blockchain, featuring several materials, like the ability to post music with rating and get reward. And ensuring posts that promote good morals will always get rated and get rewarded. This project is still in the planning stage and nothing is as yet absolutely conclusive.

📌 Do you have or plan to have a WhaleToken? If so, tell us about it.

Yes we already have a token named Flezer. The name was derived from an amalgamation of the words "flaming" (FL) and helpers" which is EZER in Greek. Flezer is backed by both my personal account (stevenmosoes) and the Community witness account (god). To use the Flezer token, send any amount from 1 to 100 for an upshare from both @god and @stevenmosoes; 1 percent for 1 flezer and 100 percent for 100 flezer

📌 What are your goals as a witness?

First to ensure the forks who are already are well happy to stay, to build a strong network of people for other sharing platforms to emulate and to ensure Whaleshares platform is widely spread to the world and to get corporate bodies adopting it for several purposes.

📌 What do you see as the biggest challenge for Whaleshares and how do you think it should be addressed?

I cant think of none at the moment.

📌 If you had to vote for only one witness (not yourself) who would it be and why?

@bushkill-witness; his community services are amazingly giving, sweet and thoughtful. It is a pattern I plan to emulate as I grow and develop on the platform.

Vote @god as witness because even though we are not God but we are a set of people who strive to promote good morals, the gospel and the right way of life and most especially love.
