Photo to Poetry Contest 3 ~ Let It Burn

Sometimes in our life we reach a point where we realize that we need to let go and cleanse ourselves of that which holds us back, whether it be getting closure in a relationship or moving on from our pasts, and it was with this in mind that I decided to write this short piece of poetry inspired by the visual art of @derangedvisions in the third Photo to Poetry Contest hosted by @backpackingmonk.

To embellish the feeling of breaking free I have used a broken rhyme pattern, whilst keeping the lines within each stanza short as a reminder that whatever you are faced with is merely temporary.

Let It Burn.

Let the embers slowly turn
Embrace the eager winds of change
as it whistles to the beat of your heart
a drumbeat out of range.

Watch the flickering fire sprites
as the dance across the sky
the rhythmed feet of swift embrace
as the promptly pass you by.

Can you hear the crackling thunder
in the infernal opulence
without indulging in regret
its depurating consequence?

Let the rubble deemed precarious
through flesh and mind left spurn
be tinder fueling licking flames
as you slowly watch it burn.
