I've been trying to take photos of this butterfly with spread wings for some time now, and I can tell you it's a difficult task. I'm looking for butterflies every day, some of which I see daily. Meadow brown one of them (Lat. Maniola jurtina).
I finally realized that I was trying to catch this butterfly at the wrong time of day. In my experience so far, the best time is in the morning when they start their daily activities. Butterfly photography requires a lot of patience, it is often almost impossible to realize your intentions from the first attempt.
I have photographed this butterfly many times, but always with wings folded, sometimes but not too often they spread their wings but only for a second or two. They need to spread their wings more often in the early morning. Why? This way they accumulate body temperatures through the sun's heat they need to be able to fly. Simple but so complicated to discover!
